Essential Non-Fiction: 6 Easy Reads That Will Change Your Life Forever
Travel season is upon us and the best way to make the most of your holiday time is to disconnect as much as possible. Taking a break from the devices and curl up with a good book or 6, from our essential reading list; whether you’re cozy by the fireplace in South Dakota or waiting for your red eye to South Beach, nothing sets the mood for a great season like a stellar book… Without further ado, the following is a list of 6 quick, powerful reads to lighten, lift and inspire you along the way.
1) On The Shortness of Life – Seneca
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: If you appreciate philosophy, psychology, humanities, timeless wisdom, or any / all of the above, then this will be nothing short of a life-changing journey. I can, without question, say that this is one of the single most impactful books I’ve personally come across. Written around the time Hippocrates and Jesus Christ walked the earth, Seneca digs deep into the human consciousness in an artful, timeless way, contemplating life itself, and offering relevant insights on how to live life to the max.
2) 48 Laws of Power – Robert Greene
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: This gripping “National Bestseller” boasts exquisitely articulated accounts of historical figures and their respective relationships with Power; politics, romance, and all things deceptive become unraveled before your eyes and let you in on some of history’s greatest schemes. While I certainly don’t recommend using this one as a “guide,” it’s an exciting read with loads of personality, share-worthy quotes, and psychological intrigue.
3) 5 Love Languages – Gary Chapman
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: Don’t judge this book by its hopelessly romantic cover, this is not your average self-help book on Love. This New York Times Best Seller is an incredibly handy tool offering insights on how to improve communication in virtually any relationship. Though geared for those in a romantic relationship, this is also a great read for singles and can help achieve closure and better prepare you for your next amorous adventure.
4) Cleanse & Purify Thyself – Richard Anderson
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: This surprisingly underrated account of Anderson’s journey through the mystifying world of holistic health and internal cleansing is a profound eye-opener for anyone curious about natural healing or living a longer healthier life in general. Whether you’re new to the natural medicine scene or a seasoned cleansing veteran, this book offers priceless life-altering info along with plenty of inspiration to help you on your journey to a healthier you.
5) The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: This isn’t necessarily a “quick” read, but it’s organized in such a way that it would make perfect sense to take time in between chapters (and holidays) for reflection. Regardless of where you are on your personal path, this is an instant classic for anyone looking to step up his / her game, in virtually any arena of life. This Best Seller has been wildly revered as the “personal leadership handbook of the decade” and hailed as “required reading” in many a leadership course… Leadership aside, there are fantastic basic principles in the book which lay all sorts of groundwork for your road to a better you.
6) The Power (The Secret) – Rhonda Byrne
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: Sure, we’ve all heard of the Law of Attraction, but this light, uplifting book is a necessary breath of fresh air (if not something much more significant). Whether you’re new to the process or simply curious about new age thought, this one details how to go about incorporating positive thinking processes into your life, enabling you to manifest your desires and live the life you want to live. This well-organized book is a welcomed diversion from the holiday chaos, if not much more.
